Hello. I’m Ryan!

Selfie taken after summiting Mount Washington in NH. This incredible experience informed the naming of The SUMMIT Collection, available now.

Here I am practicing a coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) on a pig heart!

Here I am taking the backlit, golden-hour beach photos used in The SUMMIT Collection launch.

About Me:

  • In my life, I have had two prevailing passions: photography/photo-editing and science/medicine. I fell in love with both at a very young age, and have been spellbound ever since. When I was about the age of eight, I was gifted my first camera and was struck by the beauty that I was able to capture with it. I spent so much time peering through its viewfinder that it could be said that it became part of my anatomy (corny medical joke, I know). Later, at about the age of twelve, I began editing my photos in Adobe Photoshop Elements (and later, full Photoshop). Here, I found a space in which my creativity could really run wild. I spent the next several years teaching myself the ins-and-outs of Photoshop, and creating Photoshop Actions that preserved my best work.

  • After high school, photography took the back burner while I attended college on a pre-medical track and worked multiple STEM/medical jobs. In 2021, I obtained a B.S. in Biochemistry, summa cum laude, and I began medical school this year (eek!). During my gap year, I re-embraced photography/photo-editing and finished the work that I began years ago (most of which is now materialized in the SUMMIT Collection).

  • Catalysis is, in essence, a merger of these two passions of mine. Although named after the function of Photoshop Actions in speeding up our editing processes, its name was inspired by my studying of enzymatic catalysis in my biochemistry courses. It is my hope that Catalysis can act as a site at which a community of photographers (professionals and hobbyists like myself, alike) can come together with the goal of sharing our artistic endeavors, supporting and lifting one another up, and inspiring one another creatively. I am so excited to open the Catalysis shop, through which I can share with you the fruits of my creative work over the past decade. “Summit”, a collection of beautiful color Photoshop Actions, and the “Mini B/W Collections”, for editing black and white photos, are now available (and a new, fun collection is in the works)!

  • As a medical student as well, however, I must thank you deeply for any monetary support (whether via purchase from our shop, friend referral, or donation below). The road to medicine is difficult and not kind on one’s pockets, to be sure. Any profit made from the sale of these products will help me significantly in my day-to-day living expenses as a student.

All the best, Ryan
